The best time to visit Elephanta Caves is during the months of November and March as the weather remains hot and humid during other months which makes the journey uncomfortable. 

An Elephanta island can be reached via a ferry that starts at 9 am and the last of which is the caves left at 30:30. One should also witness the music and dance festival held for two days in February every year. The caves remain closed on Mondays.

Ponnumthuruthu Island, Trivandrum

Ponnumthuruthu Island, a grand getaway surrounded by the beautiful backwaters of Kerala, is the perfect island with a visit to the beautiful Varkala. Named ‘Golden Island’ due to its long sandy stretch of beaches, it is an ideal place for nature lovers as one can hear the chirping of birds amidst red laterite rocks and pleasant mineral springs. The nearest railway station is the Varkala railway station at a distance of 5 km from the island. The nearest airport is Trivandrum International Airport which is 30 km from this soothing island. Tourists are required to board the Boat Dunganda boat and reach the island in 30 minutes via the backwaters. The cost of a boat ride is INR 200 per person. The major attraction of the place is the Shiva Parvati temple which is very old.
