How to reach –

The Bhrigu Lake Trek, in Himachal Pradesh in India, is one of the hardest and a challenging treks faced by the trekkers on their way. Though these trekkers are willing to face the challenge of trekking at the 14000 feet high Alpine mountains.

The route to avail during your journey:-

If you are willing to take a flight then you have to get down at the Kullu airport and then hire a cab or get into a bus towards Manali from Manali you will commence your journey towards the Bhrigu Lake trek. But it is not feasible to book a ticket for a flight, after all, they have a few drawbacks as well, as the flights get cancelled a lot due to bad weather conditions.

Another airport that can be availed is the Bhuntar Airport but it is 50 kilometres away from Manali. You have to travel for a long period by cab or bus towards Manali.

For train facilities, first, you have to get down at the Chandigarh Station and then book a taxi or get into a bus towards Manali.

Though, transportation is easily available from Manali.

By road, it is preferable if you begin your journey from Delhi towards Manali. It is a twelve to thirteen hours of journey to Manali. Upon reaching Manali, get ready for your adventurous trekking journey.

Things to carry –

If you have decided to execute your trekking plan at the Bhrigu Lake Trek then make sure to carry these items with you :

  1. Carry two bottles of water; that can contain 1-litre of water in each of the bottles.
  2. Carry with you a flexible stick on your way. It is a necessary item for trekking purposes.
  3. Carry a maximum of three to four warm clothes. Do not overload your backpack with an extra amount of clothes.
  4. Carry with you two to three pairs of trousers but they might be washable and waterproof. 
  5. A torch and batteries to keep you going for your trekking days. If you are using an electrical charging torch then make sure you have a portable charger with you.
  6. Wear trekking shoes while you go on trekking at Bhrigu Lake. You can also wear sports shoes but remember to carry another pair of shoes with you on your journey.
  7. You must have a portable charger for your cell phone on your trekking days.
  8. Take along a first aid kit and the medical equipment as prescribed by your doctor. (It is advisable to consult a doctor before you go out on a trek at the Bhrigu Lake).
  9. Carry dry snacks with you on your trek; such as dry nuts, biscuits, chocolates to keep you going with full-fledged energy.
  10. Do not forget to carry an umbrella and your sunglasses on the trip.

Best time to visit –

You can set out on your journey for the Bhrigu Lake Trek from June to October.

Though the freezing snowy terrain turns to a safe trekking ground after May. The meadows are filled with greenery from June and remain green till September and early October. 

The monsoon season is an amazing thing to view. The whole mountain region is filled with lush green vegetation covering like a blanket on a dry body.

The Winters are horrible for trekking, that is from November till May and the mountain regions are covered in white snow, sometimes resulting in heavy landslides so the area remains impossible for trekking at.

Level of difficulty –

Trekking at Bhrigu Lake might seem to be a challenging one but the three days trek is for the trekkers at a beginner level to the advanced ones. The difficulty is moderate so it is counted as a trekking spot to experience a trekking journey in one’s lifetime. It is not a risky trekking ground after all the Bhrigu Lake is a pilgrimage site as well. If you are not experienced in trekking then also you won’t face difficulties at the Bhrigu Lake Spot.

The locals are mostly the villagers from the nearby Vasisht village and they are a bit superstitious. They believe that Maharishi Bhrigu created the lake and performed a rigorous penance near the lake. Every year he visits the lake at a certain time with his followers and disciples. The locals believe that the lake never freezes even if the other water bodies freeze during the harsh cold weather.
