Nowadays there are so many easy to moderate trekking available within budget, that anyone can afford. Just go beyond your normal life for 2-3 days only, you will find a new person within you. Without normal life means – no laptop, no bluetooth, no mobile phone and most of all no vehicle, i.e without technology. Don’t laugh, give it a try.

Bangalore, the city of IT park. All the citizens are too occupied with their profession here. All are working in different shifts to adjust with worldwide time zones, because now It companies have branches all over the world. As a human being it is your right to spend some time with your friends and relatives and most importantly with you. So, manage some time on any weekend and go trekking. Within 50-100 kms. there are many lovely trekking locations. If you have difficulty in finding them, I am going to describe 10 most exciting treks in Bangalore. Please keep reading.

Top 10 Treks:

Skandagiri hill trek

Skandagiri, good name Kalavara Durga, is situated in CHikballapur district. The Papagani Temple is the starting point of the trek. It is easily accessible from Bangalore by bus service. It will take 2-3 hours to reach the top, according to your fitness and walking speed. If you are an early riser and photography passionate, then start at 3 a.m to witness the marvelous sunrise. Never ending waves of clouds will make this scenery more beautiful. The historical fact of this place is, it was Tip Sultan’s one of the most important forts. Most of the parts are demolished except two caves. Distance from Bangalore is 61 kms. From October to January is the right time to visit this place. It is  a  little difficult trek with an elevation of 1450 mtrs. 

If you are a trekker and have experience then go for it. If not, then start doing some exercises fifteen days before the journey.

Savandurga Trek 

Durga means fort. Savandurga is also known as Savinna durga which means “The fort of death”. This hill station is a temple town in the district of Tumkuru of Karnataka. Starting point of this trek is Sri Lakshmi Narasimhawaran temple. The landscape of this region is muddy, small forests and granite rocks. It is about a 15 minute trek and easy to reach the summit. Please keep some time to enjoy the surroundings of the summit. Green forests, endless bends of Thippagondanahalli reservoirs of Magadi and Ramanagara will be in your view point. The rocks become slippery in monsoon and heated during summer. So, from October to January is the correct time to visit. It is at a distance of 60 kms. from Bangalore and the trek elevation is 1226 mtrs.

Ramanagara Trek

Gabbar Singh used to trek with his army in this area. He is a famous character and the movie is “Sholay”. Ramnagara is surrounded by seven hills and a unique location for trekking. Most people come here for day trek. Only 400 steps to reach the top.

Ramanagara district is also known as “Silk city”. It is 50 kms. from Bangalore and well known for rock climbing. Early morning start will be comfortable as the temperature remains cooler than day time. The trek elevation is 2450 meters. The beauty of hills can be seen from 4 different directions to get a full view of the place. If you are excited to visit Gabbar’s den then get ready and plan for a trek to Ramanagara.

Devarayanadurga Trek

DD hills is the short name of Devarayanadurga. A large number of visitors come here for adventure as well as to visit two famous temples. Bhoga Narasimha temple and Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple, famous for hosting a chariot festival. Buddha Purnima is also celebrated in the months of March and April. In the foothills there is a big pond. It is a one day trip from Bangalore at a distance of 50 kms. Trek is easy and starts from the foot of the hill where a turret tower is made of brick and mortar. There is a fort at the hillock. A natural spring is also visible from here.. The last 2 kms. of the trek will take 30-40 minutes to reach the summit. On the way to the summit some challenges have to be faced due to boulders. After reaching the top A green field view and the temples at the bottom will encourage you for photography. Jaya-tirtha, a small spring, is also there. The trek elevation is 4000 meters. 

Narayangiri

You can get many places for day trekking. But night trekking has its own specification and excitement. Narayangiri is the ideal place for night trekking. It  is easy to climb to the top. You have to climb very carefully in some parts of the hill. But after reaching the top the view of Ramanagaram city in the night has some magical beauty. Up in the sky twinkling stars and down in the city twinkling lights will make you a bit confused where to see. The place is 54 kms. from Bangalore and in Ramanagaram district.

Nandi hills

Memory of Tipu Sultan is spreaded all over Karnataka. Nandi hills are also visited by the tourists to see the summer residence of Tipu Sultan. There are two routes for trekking. In the northern side a well maintained road is going to the top of the hill. This road is used by cyclists and bikers. So, this route will remain crowded. Trekking is all about walking peacefully to a hilltop. It is better to take the southern route for trekking. After reaching the top you can spend as much time as you want. Photography can be the main attraction. The trek is easy, so you can remain energetic till the end of the day. Distance from Bangalore is 60 kms. And in Chikkaballapur.

Makalidurga Trek

Lake view treks have always attracted trekkers for their outstanding glory.  Makalidurga trek is different from other places due to lush green trails, amazing lake view and rocky terrains. A half day tour is perfect for the weekend. The bird watchers are mostly welcomed for this trek. This trek is conducted under the supervision of Karnataka Ecotourism and a permission is required from the Forest department. Online requests are allowed to the visitors and there is an option for choosing the convenient slot. Makalidurga is 60 kms. Away from Bangalore, on the way to Doddaballapur. It is open throughout the year but the best time to visit is after the monsoon. Greenery and the surrounding atmosphere becomes more beautiful after the monsoon.  The shape of the lake looks like the map of South America. Trek elevation is 4430 feet above sea level.

Horagina Betta

Very near to Nandi Hills. It is an easy trek . Three amazing hills, Channagiri, Skandagiri and Nandi hills are viewed all the way through the trek. You have to go through a narrow trail of thorny bushes. The bushes grow bigger during monsoon. It is not advisable to visit Horagina Betta just after monsoon, as there will be chances of missing trails. Climbing route is very challenging and steep. The 4 hours trek is exciting with the tall trees, views of 3 hills and misty hills. It is 60 kms. From Bangalore. Visit during winter.

Anthargange  

80 kms. From Bangalore towards Kolar, Another exciting night trek is there. Anthargange trek is a moderate trek with huge boulders, At the height of 4021 ft. is well for natural rock formation. Caves and temples are other attractions on the walkway. It is a 3 hour trek passing through a dense forest but a guide from the tourism department is mandatory.  

Kunti Betta

The local people believe that Pandavas with mother Kunti lived on this hill during their Vanabas. This trek is visited by amateur and professional trekkers. Photogenic views are available from the top of this hill. The trekkers also can enjoy a bonfire after witnessing the beautiful sunset. As the trek is on the side of a difficult level, it takes 5 hours to reach the top. Distance from Bangalore is 130 kms. and situated in SH19, Pandavapura.
