You can get a Green Homes Grant voucher to help you install energy-efficient enhancements in your home if you are a homeowner or residential landlord.

What are you eligible for?

The voucher can cover up to two-thirds the cost of your selected improvements with a maximum government contribution of over PS5, 000.

Your voucher could cover 100% of the cost for your selected improvements if you or your household receives certain benefits. The maximum government contribution is 10,000

Eligibility

You may be eligible for a coupon if you apply by 31 March 2021.

  • You own your home (including shared ownership and long-leaseholders)
  • You can own your own home in a park on a residential property (including Gypsy or Traveller sites).
  • You are a residential landlord in either the private or public rented sector (including housing associations and local authorities)

Newly built homes cannot be eligible for the Green Homes Grant voucher if they have never been occupied.

You can claim other grants and funding.

Energy Company Obligation

It cannot use a Green Homes Grant voucher to pay for a measure that has received funding through the Energy Company Obligation. Both ECO and Green Homes Grant can be claimed, provided they are for different criteria such as loft insulation or cavity wall insulation.

Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI),

They can claim both the Domestic RHI and the Green Home Grant for a renewable heat system. When you apply to be accredited for the Domestic RHI, you must first claim the Green Home Grant voucher and notify of gem. You will deduct your Domestic RHI payments from the Green Homes Grant.

Local Authority Delivery Scheme

You cannot receive a Green Homes Grant voucher if you have received a grant through the Local Authority Delivery Scheme.

If your landlord

State assistance

The Green Homes Grant is counted towards the maximum de minims state assistance you can receive over three years. It is important to ensure that you do not exceed EUR200, 000 of de minims state assistance.

Energy efficiency standard

You must either provide if you’ve applied for a voucher to private rented property.

  • evidence that you have met the standard
  • Proof of exemption

How can the coupon are used for

Home Improvements

There are two types of devices possible: original and secondary.

Primary Measures

You must use the voucher to install at most one primary measure.

Insulation

These insulation measures are covered under the voucher:

  • Solid wall insulation (internal and external)
  • Cavity wall insulation
  • Under-floor Insulation (concrete or suspended floor)
  • Loft insulation
  • Flat Roof Insulation
  • pitched roof insulation
  • Room in Roof Insulation
  • Insulating a Park Home

Low carbon heat

The voucher covers the following low-carbon heating measures:

  • heat pump
  • Ground Source Heat Pump
  • Sidereal thermal (liquid-filled flat course or evacuated tube representative).
  • biomass boiler
  • hybrid heat pump

Secondary measures

You can use your voucher for any secondary costs if you have installed at least one primary measure.

You cannot get more than you pay for primary measures towards secondary costs.

Only secondary measures vouchers can be used after you have installed the primary step and redeemed your coupons.

They cannot use the voucher to replace secondary measures that you have already installed on your property.

Doors, windows, Insulation, and draught proofing

These measures are covered under the voucher:

  • Draught proofing
  • Hot Water Tank Insulation
  • Double or Triple Glazing (replacement of single glazing)
  • Secondary glazing (includes single glazing)
  • External energy-efficient replacement doors (replacing single-glazed doors or doors that has installed before 2002).

You cannot redeem the voucher to replace or remove existing measures on your property.

Vouchers to be used for eligible doors can only be issued for a maximum of 1,000 in government contributions per door. They can add up this amount across all entries in an application.

They cannot use the voucher to install a garage door that allows vehicles into and out of the garage. However, you can use the coupon to purchase an external door to connect a garage with your home.

Heating controls and Insulation

These measures are covered under the voucher:

  • Hot Water Tank thermostat
  • Hot Water Tank Insulation
  • Heating controls (such as thermostats, smart heating control, zone controls, and intelligent delayed start thermostats)

If the replacement is of a different type or is meant to increase energy efficiency, you can use the coupon to replace heating controls or hot water tank thermostats. You can follow an old-fashioned thermostat with a smart thermostat.

Get the job done

After your voucher is issued, you are ready to start the work. Your installer may ask you to pay a deposit. The deposit cannot exceed your contribution to the cost for the chosen measures under their quote.

Your installer will only require a deposit if the total cost of work exceeds the 10,000 grant if you applied under the low-income scheme. Only the amount that exceeds the PS10, 000 allocations will be eligible for a deposit.

What is the voucher for?

The voucher covers the following costs

  • Labor
  • materials
  • VAT

If additional works are required for the installation of the measures, the voucher will cover them.

You, your family members, or a member of your immediate household cannot complete work.

The voucher covers only work done by Trustmark-registered contractors who are also registered for the scheme. When installing your measures, your installer must also meet PAS or MCS standards.

Use the voucher to redeem

You must use your voucher before it expires.

  • You will need to redeem your coupon.
  • Your reference number (received at the time you applied for the grant).
  • The postcode for the property where they installed the measure
  • The unique email address you used to submit your application.
  • Your voucher number
  • The final cost of the action (including VAT)
  • A digital copy of your dated invoice is available. Each step will require one invoice.

Please confirm:

  • The installation was successful
  • You have the necessary certification reports from that installer.
  • You have contributed to the costs of the installer (if applicable).

The grant will be paid to you directly by the installer when your voucher is redeemed.
