Small Businesses

This holiday season may be a little different than most. Since the pandemic took place, there have been extra steps that small businesses have had to take to keep their staff and customers safe. While doing so, most businesses had to lock up temporarily, cut staff, and restrict their spending. This time could have impacted their future earnings for the long term.

While the holiday season starts to approach, it’s more important than ever to spread kindness throughout your community by supporting small businesses — and here’s how you can too!

How to Shop Small Businesses

You may be starting your holiday shopping a little early. And if you are, congratulations! You may be thinking of ways you can give back to your community without having to fork over your whole holiday budget. Here are four ways you can show your support with, or without, money.

Swap Your Store-Bought Holiday Cards

Instead of heading for your local department store for holiday cards, shop at a local artist’s store. They most likely have unique holiday cards for every member of your family. Not only could think help creators, but it could put a smile on your loved one’s face — they may have never seen a holiday card like that before.

Send Gift Cards of Your Favorite Local Brands

You may not know exactly what your loved one would want for the holidays, and that’s okay! You don’t always have to have a gameplan when you do your holiday shopping. You could simply buy a gift card from your favorite local business, or businesses, for your loved one to pick out their favorite purchase.

Shout Out Your Favorite Small Businesses on Social Media

If you’re on a holiday budget this year, or you’ve already bought all your gifts, consider spreading kindness over social media. Using Mint’s template, you could download and share your favorite local businesses. Be sure to tag them in your stores! They may end up resharing it on their own social media accounts.
