egg allergies

As a super food, egg can bring essential proteins that meets to human’s being daily needs. That’s the main reason it is indicated in the baby’s food. But some kids-even adults- cannot bear the eggs. They suffer from egg allergies that are not as common as it seems.

Symptoms of an egg allergy

Within the next 30 minutes following the consumption of an egg, the first signs appear. The intensity and the types of reactions may differ from one child to another but in most of the case; the allergy is shown out by an inflammation of the hives and the skin. If there is any treatment after these first signs, the allergy may lead to other digestive symptoms including nausea, cramps, diarrhea, and sometimes vomiting.

More consequent symptoms such as signs of asthma, tightness in the chest, coughing, shortness of breath or wheezing may appear after. And these can be followed by nasal congestion, sneezing, a runny nose, swelling of the lips or the tongue, red or watery eyes, dizziness and even confusion.

If there is any medical care after the appearance of these different symptoms, the person may develop severe digestive symptoms and can even die.

The main causes of egg allergies

An egg allergy is a consequence of the incapacity of the immune system to bear some proteins that are present within the egg. When these nutrients are introduced in the body, the immune system that is allergic to them delivers histamine and other chemicals. This action lingers an allergic reaction against the egg’s proteins. The most common proteins within the powder egg that cause egg allergy are mainly seen within the egg white. But some studies stipulate that both yolk and white can contain these allergens. That’s why the whole egg is avoided in a case of egg allergy.

If the egg allergy normally catches child and teens, some adult may develop a kind of egg allergy that is manifested by lip swelling, shortness of breath, wheezing or coughing. These symptoms depend on the genes of the person and its immune system that considers egg as a threat, probably because they have been allergic to egg since their childhood and have always avoided eating them since.

By the way, the rate of allergenicity can be reduced by the way the eggs are prepared.  Well-cooked proteins may certainly be more digest for some egg allergic persons. That’s the reason why some kids bear better the omelets and the eggs within a cake, a pie, a soup than eggs used within the ice cream or the raw eggs.

Otherwise, some parents think that food is the best source of nutrient their children need for their growing. Then, they decide to make some vaccines made of egg proteins for their kids. This can let these last normally eat eggs and benefit from their good nutrients during the childhood.

Tips to cope with egg allergy

The simplest way to manage egg allergy is only to avoid eggs. If you don’t want to eat eggs, make sure to master all the components of a manufactured product you are going to buy. Even a trace of egg may develop a reaction in some sensitive people. For your information, notice that some manufacturers use different words to indicate the presence of egg within a specific product. Remember that the egg allergy comes from the proteins of the eggs so the nutrients such as globulin, albumin,  lyzozyme,  ovalbumin, vitellinbut also the ovovitellin can develop it. So, read carefully the package because an indicated egg-free product may gather many egg proteins and may linger to an egg allergy.
