easier moving tips

Moving to a new home is an amazing experience. You have probably bought your dream home and now it is time to leave the old one behind. However, packing, organizing, moving and unpacking can be stressful for everyone. There is a lot to take care of and without some lists and even help, the whole move can be long and stressful. So, to help you make your move faster, easier, and less stressful, here are some tips to make this happen.

Start Getting Rid of Things

If you’ve been living in the current place for a few years, it is possible that a lot of items have piled up in your home. Chances are small that you need every single thing and move to a new home, so use this time to get rid of some things. Go through your closets and see what clothes can be donated and which you want to keep. Go through every nook and cranny in your current home and throw away anything you don’t need or are broken and old. Some pieces of furniture you don’t need can be donated, shoes, too, and many other items. Also, it is a good idea to start doing this a few months ahead, so you can declutter and move to a new house with only the essentials.

Make a Folder

In order to stay as organized as possible during this move, you will need a folder. Keep all the essential documents and papers here, including new addresses, purchase papers, contracts, and others.  You can have a hard copy or a digital one on your devices, but make sure to have this folder to make things much easier. These are essential documents and you don’t want to misplace them during the move.

Start Packing Early

You are probably going to know about the move a few weeks in advance and you should use all that time to start packing. The sooner you start, the more organized you are going to be and not miss any items. The best idea is to start packing items and clothes you don’t use on a daily basis and get everything organized. Also, collect the necessary boxes and paper for packing. However, if this is too big of a hassle for you or you don’t have enough time, you can always find professional packing services that will help you get everything in order in no time. So, depending on how much time you have, choose the services or start doing everything yourself.

Book Everything Early

If you are hiring any services – packing, moving, renting supplies, etc. – make sure to book everything as early as possible. If you wait for too long, you may not find a truck, movers, packers, or other professionals that you need, so, do everything in advance.

Schedule Your New Utilities

As soon as you have the date of moving into a new home, make sure to schedule the utilities. You want to avoid situations where there is no electricity, water, or heat as soon as you get there. So, contact your providers and get everything done on time and keep records of your requests in your moving folder. Also, don’t forget to cancel the services for your move-out date at the old place.

Prepare for the Moving Day

Once everything is packed and scheduled, you have to be prepared for moving and the ride. The first thing you can do is pack a cooler with snacks and drinks for the ride. Also, make sure to have a plan for your kids and pets. If they are too young to help with everything, you can have them hang out with friends or family to relieve a bit of stress on themselves and keep them safe. The same goes for your pets since it is going to be much easier if you don’t have to take care of anyone while you are organizing everything. Lastly, make sure everything is packed and ready a day before moving day. You don’t want to be in a rush and do last-minute packing since it is much more stressful and you may forget things.

Yes, moving is stressful, but going to your dream home is a beautiful thing. To make things easier, make sure to keep a checklist, pack in advance and use this opportunity to get rid of some old stuff and make room for new items that will make your new home beautiful.
