1. KARL THE FOG

You can’t visit the city without running into Karl. It ever goes more than a few days without fog coming through, especially in the mornings and nights, no matter what time of year it is. Everything you’ve heard about San Francisco’s frigid summers is true – so dress!

2. GOLDEN GATE BRIDE

The Golden Gate Bridge is San Francisco’s most famous landmark, making it a definite must-see. Our favourites are: 1) grabbing some food and a picnic blanket to sit on Baker Beach, and 2) the beautiful Battery Spencer, which we included in our list of San Francisco’s Ten Best Views. You can also stroll or bike across the bridge to Sausalito for a bayside lunch.

The land of San Francisco is the perfect destination for your vacation so book a plane ticket to San Francisco now.

3. ALCATRAZ & ANGEL ISLAND

Alcatraz and Angel Island are located in the centre of San Francisco Bay and may be reached via a short ferry journey. Alcatraz, often known as “The Rock,” is a historic fort, military jail, and maximum security federal penitentiary that has long captivated people with legends of escape attempts. For the sake of freedom and Native American civil rights, Indians of All Tribes seized Alcatraz for 19 months in 1969. Angel Island State Park was a U.S. Immigration Station with a rich history, lovely beaches, and hiking paths, so bring a picnic lunch to enjoy the scenery.

4. CASTRO

The Castro, one of the earliest gay neighbourhoods in the United States, is still one of the most visible emblems of LGBTQ activism. There are punny-named pubs, restaurants, and boutiques, the GLBT History Museum, rainbow flags and crosswalks, the LGBTQ Walk of Fame called the Rainbow Honour Walk, and the famous Castro Theatre.

5. CHINATOWN

San Francisco’s Chinatown is both the largest outside of Asia and the oldest in North America. You can take photos near the Dragon’s Gate, eat Dim Sum, tour the Golden Gate Fortune Cookie Factory, visit the market-style restaurant and bar China Live, and shop at the many stores.

6. CABLE CAR

One of the few places in the world where you can ride on a national historic landmark in San Francisco. Cable cars are the last operated cable car system in the world. Rather than beginning at the downtown turnaround, as most people do, we propose beginning somewhere else! They keep spots open throughout the route to pick up people, so you can usually get on at one of the other stops without having to wait in line.
