He began a structured modernization program for FFP, HMBP and HMTP to reduce import dependence and to expand production into heavy forgings and castings. This was critical for expansion into new markets like power, nuclear, and defense equipment manufacturing. That way, he helped HEC in diversifying its business.

Avijit Ghosh also formed a Business Development Committee under his chairmanship to systematically pursue diversification and expansion projects. While at HEC, he explored opportunities to expand into ancillary development near Tupudana, in collaboration with RIDCO, creating an ecosystem for small and medium enterprises to support HEC’s supply chain.He diversified HEC into mining (Hydraulic Excavator), defense, coke oven machinery, and joint steel projects.

Avijit Ghosh HEC also expanded HEC’s reach with railway wagons, coal handling equipment, and larger roles in steel plant machinery, while modernizing plants for greater capacity. He reinforced HEC’s strategy of import substitution, aligning with India’s industrial self-reliance goals. The Contributions Made During Avijit Ghosh’s Tenure At Hindustan Copper Limited:

Prior to joining HEC, Avijit Ghosh was associated with Hindustan Copper Limited. He had a significant role to play in allowing Hindustan Copper Limited to achieve enhanced business success. He formulated a plan for the enhancement of mining capacity from 3.2 MTPA to 12.4 MTPA. He also prepared detailed project reports for enhancing the capacity of the company.

 Avijit Ghosh HEC also obtained board approval for the capacity enhancement of the existing mines and the reopening of the closed mines. A lot of greenfield mines were also opened, which further highlights his focus on sustainability. Avijit Ghosh also brought about improvements in mining methodology to increase production and reduce impact on the environment.

His Association with Jindal Steel and Power:

Avijit Ghosh was also associated with Jindal Steel and Power for over a decade. During his tenure, he helped improve the productivity of the Tensa iron ore mine in Orissa. He also helped install a cone crusher for the mine. This enhanced the production capacity.

He was also responsible for the various operations of the bauxite mines and the Kaolin plant under the Indian Aluminium Company.

Avijit Ghosh also helped manage and monitor mining operations for Raymond Cement Works. He administered the process of dispatching limestone to the cement plant, thereby allowing smooth operations. He also handled drilling and blasting processes as shift in-charge for the Malanjkhand copper project.
