Planning your next travel expedition? 5 tips you need to know

Are you stepping out of your comfort zone for the first time? Are you taking an excursion trip but unsure how to get started? Well, don’t worry. A few years ago, I was in your place. Just like you, I was confused about where to get started, what place to select for my excursions, and what things to pack to help me stay safe and spend time in the best way possible.

Mark my words, your planning will not end until the last minute. But rest assured, you will get the hang of it. A travel phobia or packing phobia is real. And to help you with it, I have created a list of the steps you should take to plan your next travel expedition.

This guide will help you if you are traveling to another destination for the first time, may it be for hiking, kayaking, climbing, or some other adventure. It will be of great help to you in all these ventures.

Let’s get started.

How to plan your next trip?

While planning your next trip, you need to work on many things. First, decide what will be your budget, what destinations are available in the budget that you have selected. As you already know that there are multiple destinations, and you simply can’t select one that is not economical. That’s where you should be asking yourself these heavy questions.

Where do you want to go?

Once you have set a budget, search online about where you want to go. There are many destinations that you can choose from depending on the budget you have. A good website to start searching for appropriate destinations is Booking.com.

It also depends on what is on your mind. For example, what type of vacation adventure are you looking for? Here is one way to find it out.

  • Relaxing or adventurous
  • Beaches or mountains
  • Summer or winter
  • Cities or countryside
  • Resorts or road trips
  • Festivals and culture
  • Shopping or food experience
  • Luxury, mid-range, or budget

Select one from the traveling poll we just mentioned, and you will have a narrowed interest.

If your answer is an overseas travel destination, you can get reviews about where you will be staying and what you will be doing at the Tripadvisor website. Your idea should be to make the trip as much fun and memorable as possible and not to worry about time and money problems.

How much time do you have?

Once you are done with that, think about how much time you have for your vacation.

Usually, the vacation will be between 1 and 2 weeks. That is the average time for most travel vacations if you plan to visit a single country. Since you would want to cover as many tourist spots on your adventure trip, it is better to plan your trip accordingly. It would be even better if you can get the services of a travel company.

Who are you traveling with?

Finally, the BIG question: Are you traveling alone, or is it a family vacation? If you are traveling with family, say goodbye to your adventure travel plans. If you are traveling solo or with friends, then you can pursue all kinds of adventures. This is a tough bargain, so plan accordingly.

Tips to Plan your Next Travel Expedition without Taking Stress

Now that you are at least clear about some of the biggest questions related to your travel plans let’s discuss what you should expect.

1. Plan According to Destination

It looks like an obvious tip, but many still fail to follow it. If you are traveling up north and plan to ski, be sure to keep warm clothes. Because if you buy clothes from the shops in those areas, they will cost you an arm and a leg. Even if that doesn’t happen, you will still go over your budget, and you don’t want that to happen.

Similarly, if you are heading to a country with beaches, again plan according to that adventure. Buy stuff that you need beforehand such as glasses, a camera, slippers, shirts, and trousers.

2. Keep your budget in mind

Depending on the budget you have, you can either book exotic hotels, or you can reserve a mediocre guesthouse to stay. Similarly, you can get a car valuation for a rented car or you can go on foot and through local taxis once you land in a foreign country. Or why not go on a road trip to another country? It will cost you even less than traveling through a plane.

It all depends on the type of budget you have set for your travel destination.

Earlier, we suggested using a tour operator for all these efforts. Even if you are not able to find a decent tour operator or the operator simply doesn’t come in your budget plan, you can still learn a thing or two.

Here is what you have to do. Search some tour planning websites and see what travel itinerary they have available. You can even ask them about this through email, and they will be more than happy to send you one.

Simply use the itinerary and call the places available to know what rates they have on offer. In some cases, you will get a discount. That’s how you have canceled the middle-man out while still planning your tour within budget.

3.Prioritize your tasks

You should prioritize your tasks according to their importance. Let’s say you plan to visit Thailand as your travel destination. Now, what is at the top of your priority list? DO you plan to visit as many beaches as you can? Or do you want to find the local market and shop for your family and friends?

Take a paper and write your priority list. This will enable you to align your thoughts according to a plan. This will be helpful when you begin your trip. No more fuss and confusion.

4.Decide what to bring

If you plan to do photography, make sure to have high-quality photography gear available. This would mean buying a drone, an action camera, a mobile drone, a DSLR, a good quality mobile camera, and so on. All this equipment will cost you a lot, so be sure to have a proper budget for this equipment.

When we started travel excursions on our motorbikes, we didn’t have any equipment. It was after some time that we realized that we can create Vlogs of our travels. That’s when we decided to get all the quality camera and similar stuff.

Similarly, even if you have a plan to document your travel vacations, don’t buy everything in advance. Give it some time and start traveling. Slowly and gradually, you will come to know what things to buy and what not to.

5. Start saving money now

Now that you have a plan, a destination, and a priority list available, it is time to start saving money for your trip. Think about the places where you are spending excessive money and how you can cut on these expenses.

People excessively spend every day. Stop going to all those new restaurants in the town. Also, don’t watch movies in cinemas instead get a subscription to Netflix. Similarly, cut back on shopping and only buy things that you need.

Ask yourself, do you need a cup of coffee from Starbucks every day? Or can you survive on home-brewed coffee?

Parting Thoughts

We hope this post has helped you remove all the confusion that you were having regarding your travel plans. Now plan accordingly and better organize your trip for all your upcoming excursions.
