Search Engine Optimization and Marketing Trends in 2020 (Infographic)

Technology has come a long way in terms of searching for answers on the internet. When the first websites are launched, all it takes for your website to be at the top of the search rankings is the spamming of specific keywords that most users type in every search query. This situation led to content that has little or no substance at all.

There are significant changes in the landscape of Search Engine Optimization (SEO). One of these changes is the presence of mobile phones as a device to search. In 2010, experts saw the potential in searching on-the-go using phones. Because of this potential, developers find a more convenient way of mobile searching.

A study has found that the average consumer searches for 15 hours a week using his/her mobile phone. This means that the value of mobile searching is more important than ever. If you have a website for your business, you should adapt to this technology and make sure that your pages have versions for desktop and mobile devices.

Unlike today, the maxim of SEO in the past decade was targeted in the necessary keywords or specific phrases for a webpage to have a higher ranking in the search rankings. This method is still important, but there are other factors to consider: better engagement, improved audience relations, and content reputation.

Another difference between today’s search engine landscape is the use of voice search and personal virtual assistants. Before, you have to type a search query with an exact keyword. Today, all you have to do is ask a question as if you are talking to a real human being. They also speak the answers you need, so you do not have to read.

In 2010, short-tailed keywords were vital if you want to have your page at the top of the ranks. Today, context is essential as Google developed the latent semantic indexing and artificial intelligence, which means that your page should have excellent content. Both words and context are crucial today to stay relevant in the ranks.

Social media is one of the most vital means of spreading webpages. A decade ago, social media were just another budding project full of potential. But now, almost every major corporation in the world has a social media account, and your website can even survive despite low page ranks if your social media marketing is strong.

In terms of backlinks, there is also a significant change. Before, you can also spam backlinks, and it still works in maintaining your rank. Today, spamming backlinks can get you penalized by Google. Today, quality backlinks are the only one working, and you can do it by maintaining a good relationship with your website clients.

Old SEO focuses on single pages, keywords, and rankings only, and new SEO is more ROI focused and people engaging with an audience for your site. Content is the reason why more and more websites contain blogs. However, blogs are not the only types of content you can have for your site, and other multimedia content is relevant.

Videos, infographics, and social media campaigns are now considered as SEO campaigns. Yes, content is king, but visually-pleasing images are just as important because it makes your viewers more entertained. Today, there may be new developments in work in the field of SEO and SEM.

If you want to be ahead than most people, you should know the trends in terms of SEO. You can view this infographic from Digital Marketing Philippines if you want to know what the SEO and SEM strategies are trending today.
