How to Find the Right Career Path

If you are soon to be finishing your education, or you are unhappy with your current employment and would like a change of direction, there is much to take into account. Far too many young people rush into a career without really thinking it through and that often results is a few years of wasted time, which nobody wants.

Here are a few important factors to consider when looking for a new career path.

  • Does the industry have a future? – There’s little point in joining a sector that is on its way out; the universe is constantly evolving and the world is very different to what it was only 50 years ago. Choose an industry with a promising future and there are many; computer science, artificial intelligence, drones and 3D printing, to name but a few.
  • Happiness – If you were to ask a wise old man, what is the meaning of life? He would likely tell you the goal is to be happy, to enjoy each passing moment and if you are going to spend more than half your life working in a specific field, it should be something you enjoy. The ideal situation is to follow something you are passionate about, then you end up being paid to do what you love and you can’t get any better than that!
  • New Technology – Young people pick up new tech so easy, after all, they were born into it and if you are school leaving age, you would already be IT savvy and that can give you a footing in new sectors, such as machine learning and robotics. Check out Rhenus High Tech, a leading UK white glove logistics company who are always taking on trainee technicians. This work involves learning about new technical equipment, such as digital signage, MRI and CT scanners, ATMs and other banking equipment. We are moving into a new dimension of digital tech, with machine learning really changing the game and if you are a computer wizard, this would be the career for you.
  • Ability – One must find a balance between being realistic and optimistic; it is true that we should all set high life goals and strive to reach them. However, potential employers are looking a certain type of person who has specific qualities and qualifications; bottom line – excel at school and come away with a lot of O levels and then you can choose your A levels. If, for example, you fancy joining the military, are you able to handle the 10 weeks of basic training? If you are both able and adept at something, then you have the ability to excel. Here are a few lessons you wish you’d learned earlier.

Here is some career advice from the UK government, which might help you make the right choices and there’s no rush, you might take a temporary position while thinking about a career, which could be regarded as a stepping stone. Making the right career choices will pay handsome dividends and you will enjoy a challenging and rewarding career.
