Koh Yao Noi Thailand | the Best Quiet Island for Holidays

If you want a less crowded place to visit then Koh Yao Noi is the best island for holidays that should be in your bucket list this year. It is gorgeously serene and one of the most affordable tropical vacations in Thailand.

Koh Yao Noi is rarely visited since it’s near the tourist hub of Krabi, Phuket and Phi Phi.

It’s quiet and secluded – out of civilization – the perfect Coastal Escape for a reflective holiday.

Koh Yao Noi is Muslim dominated. About 90% of the population to be precise, and they intend on keeping their island secluded for as long as they can hold on to the “secret island”.

There’s only one bar in Koh Yao Noi.

Few tourists visit the island so you’ll find limited accommodation options – you’ll also find a handful of charming restaurants and sleep to the sound of crickets rather than the loud annoying speakers from nearby towns.

Koh Yao Noi Security

The island is safe to visit and has friendly locals – far better, and welcoming compared to other towns in Thailand.

You won’t find any scams here because the island is rarely visited. Local transportation is scooter motorbikes, and surprisingly, people do not bother to lock their bikes. Most scooter owners even leave their keys in the ignition. So the islanders don’t condone crime, you should feel safe, at all times.

The local police officers are friendly and mostly idle because the isolated island rarely reports any crime.

Secluded Beach

To get to the beach, you need to rent a scooter for the day. The beach is located about 20 minutes from the town, so you’ll find yourself riding in bush thickets for a stretch before reaching this beautiful, amazing secluded island. Don’t be shocked to find anyone there.

Absolutely fantastic!

The Koh Yao Noi beach stretches along the east coast with a stunning view of Phang Nga National Park. The water is clean, warm, and calm, and the dry land offers plenty of shade from the hot sun.

Relaxation and Serenity

If you’re into relaxation and tranquillity, then this is one of the best tropical family vacations to recommend. There are several local stores to pick up essentials, a couple of restaurants, and a bar within walking distance of each other.

In the evening, it’s mostly quiet except a few sounds of rustling palm trees, creaking crickets, and a bit of thunder during the rainy season.

Explore the beautiful island by scooter, relax on fine beaches, and get to know the residents of Koh Yao Noi – they‘re social and quite helpful – and they don’t ask for money.

Diverse Landscapes

You’ll find accommodation on the east coast of the island with plenty of uninhabited beaches to spend your day. The mountains and rainforest sit right in the center of the island, with sweeping landscapes perfect for photography as you explore on a scooter. There are rubber plantations and vast fields lined with mangroves.

The west of Koh Yao Noi has rice paddies and water buffalos, copious palm trees stretching across the horizon, and long stretches of virgin sand, complete with a “holy spring” — from where fresh water drains into the sea. The ocean has an acceptable salinity water level, so it’s safe to drink from it.

  • Kayaking – you can paddle out to Koh Nok, a small island, and a mile away from Koh Yao Noi. It takes less than an hour to get to Koh Nok.
  • Spend time at the Koh Hong beach – a spotless beach with fine sand – feels like talcum powder soothing your feet.
  • Visit the national park islands; row along the Phang Nga Bay in a beautiful lagoon filled with warm water.
  • Snorkeling
